Some people call it a temple, some people call it an oracle. It is the Elemental Temple, and it floats in the void like an intricate, living piece of jewelry. One creates one's own gravity around the structure, and so can travel from level to level as if flying. The platforms are made of pearl, the struts of pure gold. Elemental Acolytes wait at every level to help you on your journey.

Um, I put this under "technical drawing" because it's sorta supposed to be a building. Also, the pearl is actually a photo of a pearl I found on google image search. I tried for about three hours to create my own pearl effect, and while I made some pretty neat looking things, none of them looked like pearl. So the texture on all of the platforms are just the photo, stretched to fit. I really hate that I had to do that, but I just wasn't getting it on my own.

Oh, and this image is TOTALLY brought to you by the grace of Corel Draw's trial edition. I used to have Draw on my old computer, but the install disks have fallen to The Shed (into which only the bravest souls venture, and even then only with full haz-mat suits) so I'm S.O.L. I tried coloring with colored pencils, which is what I wanted to do in the first place, but A) all of the detail (and I do mean all) was lost when I tried to color teeny tiny things with leads that broke every time I sharpened them (and if you think I had problems creating the look of pearl digitally, imagine how many pieces of paper I went through trying to figure out how to do it with colored pencil...), and B) I couldn't ink this in photoshop if my life depended on it. And I tried. For two days I tried. My inking technique relies on STRAIGHT GODDAMNED LINES. There was no way I could ink this. I even tried pulling out a pen, and oh boy did THAT look like utter crap. So HUZZAH for vector programs, that allow those of us who suck at inking to get a nice smooth arc or two, or several dozen.

The structure itself was inked via Corel Draw, as well as some of the elemental items (lightning, minerals, trees). Everything was colored in Adobe Photoshop. It took me around 15 hours if I had to guess.

I realize that perspective does not apparently exist in this universe, but I don't see how I could have shown all six levels and actually kept any perspective. I'm sure it would have been possible, but it would have required SKILL, of which regarding the field of perspective in art, I have NONE. ;)

That is pretty cool. I often do symbols related to elemental relationships, but I often count it at six. Fire, Air, Earth, Water, Life, and Death.

First 4 are pretty obvious, and well represented.

Life is kinda representatived of anything alive really. Plants, animals, and people. It also stands for more esoteric elements of life... the living soul, thoughts, and dreams. The present, and/or perhaps the future.

Death is more nebulous. It is representative of pretty much anything dead. Spirits, undead, the past, memories, and similiar things who time has past. This also represents the realms to which they exist as it tends not to be our realm. The afterlife of preference, The shady/ghostly otherside of the veil in our own world. Other dimensions beyond our own.

I toy with this idea, and have been wanting to write a story based on these concepts of elements. Yet take it a step further in a sense. I will get to it someday when I am not quite as busy at school.

This was a good pic though... it got me thinging! :)
