This is for Deuco of his character Miss Brr. I sketched it by hand, scanned it, resketched it digitally, printed it, traced it on a light table with colored pencil, colored it with colored pencil, scanned it, and did a lot of digital touch-up. So like most of my recent artwork this is a pretty good combination of traditional and digital media. I didn't actually plan on doing that much digital cleanup, but once I started I liked how nice it looked so I kept going. You can see the before-and-after digital cleanup image here: [link]

I worked at an extremely high resolution for this image. A friend of mine (:iconbamfette:) showed me that a plethora of errors can be hidden if you're working at high enough resolution. So you can see the actual size I was working at here: [link]

I couldn't tell you how many hours I spent on this (you think I'd have found a way to keep track by now, alas) but if I had to guess... I'd say more than ten but probably less than twenty. Which is pretty good for me!

I am really very happy with this image. I know, I'm still not as good as a lot of the people on DA, not even as good as many of my friends, but I think this shows a great improvement in my art over the last several years. I keep all my old artwork, and I improved a lot between 1995 and 2000, but then I hit a plateau and stopped improving. Sure, my artwork got a little better, but I really wasn't making the kind of progress that you'd think would come with so many years. But I finally see a lot of improvement and it makes me very happy. :)

This image was an absolute pleasure to work on, I hope Deuco likes it!

(EDIT) I realize the mask is FUBAR, but I don't have time to poke at it now. I may do so tomorrow.

(EDIT2) WOW. The colors blended together PERFECTLY at work (which is where I worked on this) and they don't blend AT ALL on my computer at home. It actually looks kinda awful. :x

(EDIT3) Okay, I re-blended some of the pink areas, and I fixed the mask. Or at least made it less FUBAR.

You have improved a lot these last several pics. You should post some side by side comparisons every three months or so to show off how far you have come.

What resolution were you working at when you said you could hide errors though? I would love to hide errors.
The PSD file is about 6500x5100. I scanned the colored image at 600dpi. My computer here at work can barely handle it, but it really helps a lot. Especially with digital inking, your lines can be a little more squiggly and less even at high rez, because when you shrink it a lot of that is hidden.

Thank you for the compliment! I've been playing City since launch, May 2004. :) And I haven't been involved in the gargs fandom for a long while, but Sapphire is still going strong.

yay for Sapphy! :w00t: wow four years of solid CoH! grats! I've only been playing final fantasy 11 for about a few weeks. most people dislike the idea of paying to play but i don't. i get more from a game that allows me to play with others and not just with NPC's. :o

oh and i wanted to say that the raptorgoyle has always been my fave! well keep paragon safe and I will keep smiting things in FFXI. take care and force be with you!
