Several years ago my good friend Sonia asked if she could commission me for a picture of my character Sapphire. At the time I was very unhappy with my artwork, and while I didn't mind giving little "gifts" to people, I never felt like it was good enough to give to someone as part of a "request". When I recently got back into the drawing habit, I realized I might actually be able to complete a commission for Sonia, finally. I obviously need more practice with the medium - while I'm proud of the blending on Sapphire's skin, I haven't practiced with light and shadow with colored pencils. The background was done with crayon, just so there'd be something there other than whitespace. It's actually a little darker in person, the scan didn't pick up all of the color. Photo reference used.
